CEREC Technology Brings Convenience and Comfort to Dental Care

Until quite recently, dental restorations, including dental crowns, were made and placed over a couple of appointments -not to mention that messy and rather uncomfortable impressions were needed to design them.

More and more dental practices are integrating advanced methods into their treatments to fabricate restorations in a single appointment. CEREC technology is one way that this is being done, and we are proud to use it here at Agape Dental Clinic. Our patients can have their smile improved quickly, without needing to wear temporaries.

CEREC is commonly used to create dental crowns. If you need this treatment, talk with our dentist near you for more information. Dr. Naheed A. Daya will be happy to walk you through the process of acquiring same-day CEREC crowns in Millwood, and let you know if you’re a good candidate.

What is a CEREC Crown?

Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) is a uniquesystem that enables dentists to make quality restorations. Crowns are designed according to the specific oral dimensions of your tooth, which are recorded via digital imaging. This information is sent to a milling machine, which shapes the crown from a block of ceramic.

Why Would I Need a CEREC Crown?

A dentist may recommend acquiring a dental crown if you’re dealing with any of the following:

  • Restoring a chipped or cracked tooth
  • Covering up a severely discoloured or oddly shapedtooth
  • Strengthening aweakened tooth

Crowns can also be supplied as part of other restorative dental treatments:

  • Holding a dental bridge in position
  • Covering an implant
  • Protecting a tooth that’s had a root canal
  • Fixing a tooth with a cavity that’s too large for a dental filling

How Does the Treatment Work?

Here’s what you can expect to happen when you attend a same-day CEREC crown appointment at our local dental clinic:

  • Digital Impressions:Say goodbye to gooey physical impressions! Dr. Daya will use a handheld camera to capture 3D pictures of your tooth; this only takes a few minutes and is completely painless. Detailed images are generated, allowing our team to make a structure that’s as accurate as possible.
  • On-Screen Design:Based on the visual information gathered, a model of your tooth appears on an accompanying computer screen. Special software is used to design a dental crown that’s tailored to the measurements of your tooth and ensure it adheres to your bite pattern.
  • In-House Milling:The crown itself is fabricated via an in-house milling machine. It’s carved out of a block of dental ceramic, a process which takes about 15-30 minutes to complete.
  • Placement and Polishing:After the crown has been made, Dr. Daya will check that the size is correct and that its shade matches the color of your surrounding teeth. Any adjustments that are required will be made before it is placed. Dental cement bonds the crown to your tooth.

Once your treatment is done, you need to make sure you take care of your treated tooth. This means brushing and flossing and avoiding chewing on hard/crunchy objects like candy or ice.

Benefits of CEREC Crowns

Patients who receive a same-day CEREC crown from our dentist in Millwoods will experience several advantages:

  • Saves Time:Only a single appointment is required to fix a damaged tooth and get your dental health back on track!
  • Comfort:Not only are physical molds unnecessary, but temporary structures are too. This reduces your time in the dentist’s chair, which patients can find uncomfortable if they’re there for an extended period or must come back for multiple appointments.
  • Durable:The material that’s used is high-quality and can last for many years with proper care.
  • Aesthetic:Dental ceramic mimics the appearance of your natural teeth, boosting your self-confidence.
